## How long can a LinkedIn About section be? Every LinkedIn character limit, with its source.

A LinkedIn About section, the summary near the top of your profile, can be up to 2,600 characters. LinkedIn's own Talent Blog gives that number, calling the section an open-ended space for an overview of your professional life.

| [Company Page overview](https://tools.joinvalley.co/linkedin-company-page-character-limit) | 2,000 | LinkedIn Learning |

We count spaces, line breaks and punctuation, the way a browser text box does. Emoji and some symbols count as 2. LinkedIn doesn't say how it counts, so leave a few characters spare.

## How it works

Paste your About section and the counter shows the characters used against that field's limit, what's left, and where your text would stop if it's over. It also shows every other LinkedIn field it would fit. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us.

It counts the way a browser text box does: in UTF-16 code units, so spaces, line breaks and punctuation count, and an emoji can count as 2. It tells you when that happens. LinkedIn doesn't publish how it counts, so leave a few characters spare.

The 2,600 is from a post on LinkedIn's Talent Blog by Jen Dewar, published 30 April 2024.

## 2,600 characters to say who you help. Here's how we'd use them.

The number is LinkedIn's. The advice below is ours.

### Where the number comes from

LinkedIn's Talent Blog puts the About section, which it calls your profile summary, at 2,600 characters at most.

### Write it for the person you just wrote to

When you send a connection request or a message, the About section is often the next thing they read. Say who you help and how, in the first lines, before the career story.

That's our view, not a rule LinkedIn publishes.

### How the counter counts

A browser text box measures length in UTF-16 code units, which is usually but not always one per character. Most letters, spaces and line breaks are one each. Many emoji are two.

We count the same way, and show the difference when your text has characters that count as two. LinkedIn doesn't publish how it counts, so if you're within a couple of characters of a limit, check in LinkedIn itself.
