What the numbers mean
What are impressions on LinkedIn?And every other number in your post analytics.
Impressions are the number of times your post was shown on LinkedIn. Every showing counts, so one person who scrolls past it three times adds three. Members reached counts each member and Page once. LinkedIn says both are estimates, and your own views count too.
| Number | What LinkedIn counts | Shown for |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions | Times your post was shown on LinkedIn, repeat showings included. | Profile and Page posts |
| Members reached | Distinct members and Pages that saw your post. Repeat views are left out. | Profile and Page posts |
| In network, out of network | The share of impressions from people who follow or are connected to you, and from people who aren't. | Profile posts |
| Reactions | Times members or Pages reacted to your post. | Profile and Page posts |
| Comments | Times members and Pages commented on your post. | Profile and Page posts |
| Reposts | Times members and Pages shared your post to their feed. | Profile and Page posts |
| Saves | Times members saved your post. | Profile posts |
| Sends on LinkedIn | Times members sent your post to someone on LinkedIn. | Profile posts |
| Engagements | Reactions, comments, saves, sends and reposts, added up. | Profile posts |
| Clicks | Clicks on your content, company name or logo by a signed-in member. Reactions, comments and reposts aren't clicks. | Page posts |
| Engagement rate | Interactions per impression, where interactions are clicks, reactions, comments and reposts. | Page posts |
| Profile viewers from this post | Distinct members and Page admins who went to your profile from the post. | Profile posts |
| Followers gained from this post | Members who followed you from the post. | Profile posts |
| Video views | Times your video was watched for two seconds or more in a row, replays included. | Video posts |

How it works
How this tool works. And what it can't see.
Copy in the numbers from a post's analytics. For a post from your profile, it adds up reactions, comments, reposts, saves and sends, which is what LinkedIn counts as engagements, and divides them by impressions. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us.
For a Company Page post, it uses LinkedIn's Page formula: clicks, reactions, comments and reposts, divided by impressions. LinkedIn shows that rate in Page analytics. It shows no rate for profile posts, so for those we use the same ratio.
The other rates are ours, not LinkedIn's, and labelled that way: by members reached (how much of the audience that saw the post acted on it), by followers, and followers gained per member reached. Impressions per member reached is how many times, on average, each person saw it.
What it can't know: LinkedIn's numbers are estimates, and your own views and reactions count towards them. And there's no benchmark here, because LinkedIn doesn't publish one. Compare a post with your own recent posts instead.

Reading your analytics
How to read LinkedIn post analytics. What LinkedIn counts, and for how long.
Four things that change how you read the numbers, each from LinkedIn's Help Center.

Impressions vs members reached
Impressions count every time your post was shown, so they grow each time the same person sees it again. Members reached counts each member and Page once, and leaves repeat views out.
Divide impressions by members reached and you get how many times, on average, each person saw the post. The calculator shows it as impressions per member reached.

What counts as an impression on a Company Page
In the content highlights of Page analytics, LinkedIn counts a view when the post is at least 50 percent on screen for 300 milliseconds or more, or when it's clicked.
LinkedIn's post analytics for a profile describe an impression more simply, as each time the post was shown on LinkedIn.

Your own activity counts
LinkedIn says your own views, engagements, link clicks, saves and sends are counted in your post's analytics. Reacting to your own post adds to its engagements.
Demographics leave guest views out. They aren't shown for posts shared only with your connections or in LinkedIn Groups.

How long LinkedIn keeps the numbers
Discovery and social engagement counts are kept for 1,000 days. Members reached is kept for 400 days, and demographic breakdowns for 180 days.
So if you want to compare this year's posts with last year's on members reached, write the numbers down before day 400.

What is a good engagement rate on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn doesn't publish one, so there's no fixed number to aim for. Run your last ten posts through the calculator and look at the middle one: that's your baseline, and it's a fairer test than someone else's average.
In our view, who engaged matters more than how many. A comment from someone you'd sell to is worth more than a hundred reactions from people you wouldn't.

- Impressions are the number of times your post was shown on LinkedIn. Every showing counts, so one person who scrolls past it three times adds three. Members reached counts each member and Page once. LinkedIn says both are estimates, and your own views count too.
- What is the difference between impressions and members reached on LinkedIn?
- Impressions count every time your post was shown, repeat showings included. Members reached counts the distinct members and Pages that saw it, so it's usually the smaller number.
- How is LinkedIn engagement rate calculated?
- For a Company Page post, LinkedIn divides interactions (clicks, reactions, comments and reposts) by impressions. For a profile post LinkedIn shows no rate, so add up its engagements (reactions, comments, saves, sends and reposts) and divide by impressions.
- What is a good engagement rate on LinkedIn?
- LinkedIn doesn't publish a benchmark. Work out the rate for your last ten posts and use the middle one as your baseline, then judge each new post against it.
- Do my own views count as impressions on LinkedIn?
- Yes. LinkedIn says your own views, engagements, link clicks, saves and sends count towards your post's analytics.
- Are LinkedIn impressions accurate?
- They're estimates. LinkedIn says the numbers in post analytics are estimates and may not be precise, and that members reached leaves repeat views out.
