The limits
How long can a LinkedIn comment be?Every LinkedIn character limit, with its source.
LinkedIn's Help Center gives 1,250 characters as the limit for comments in LinkedIn groups. It doesn't publish a separate number for comments on posts in the feed, so this counter uses 1,250 for both and marks it as the group limit.
| Field | Characters | Where it's from |
|---|---|---|
| Post | 3,000 | LinkedIn Help Center |
| Headline | 220 | Not published by LinkedIn. 220 is the reported figure. |
| About section | 2,600 | LinkedIn Talent Blog |
| Comment | 1,250 | LinkedIn Help Center, for comments in groups. None published for the feed. |
| Connection request note | 200 | LinkedIn Help Center |
| InMail subject | 200 | LinkedIn Help Center |
| InMail message | 1,900 | LinkedIn Help Center. One older FAQ says 2,000. |
| Group post | 3,000 | LinkedIn Help Center |
| Company Page tagline | 120 | LinkedIn Learning |
| Company Page overview | 2,000 | LinkedIn Learning |
We count spaces, line breaks and punctuation, the way a browser text box does. Emoji and some symbols count as 2. LinkedIn doesn't say how it counts, so leave a few characters spare.

How it works
How this tool works. And what it can't see.
Paste your comment and the counter shows the characters used against that field's limit, what's left, and where your text would stop if it's over. It also shows every other LinkedIn field it would fit. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us.
It counts the way a browser text box does: in UTF-16 code units, so spaces, line breaks and punctuation count, and an emoji can count as 2. It tells you when that happens. LinkedIn doesn't publish how it counts, so leave a few characters spare.
The 1,250 is from LinkedIn's Help Center page of general limits for groups. LinkedIn doesn't publish a limit for comments on feed posts.

The group limit, and the feed. What LinkedIn publishes, and what it doesn't.
One limit is published. The other is the one most people mean.

Comments in groups: 1,250 characters
LinkedIn's page of general limits for groups gives 1,250 characters for comments, and says it can't raise the limits on that page. It also allows up to 20 mentions in one conversation.

Comments on posts in the feed
LinkedIn doesn't publish a number for these. The counter uses the group limit, marked as such, so you have something to write to. If a long comment won't post, that's the sign.

How the counter counts
A browser text box measures length in UTF-16 code units, which is usually but not always one per character. Most letters, spaces and line breaks are one each. Many emoji are two.
We count the same way, and show the difference when your text has characters that count as two. LinkedIn doesn't publish how it counts, so if you're within a couple of characters of a limit, check in LinkedIn itself.
